Gus Goes To Camp
The arrival of Gus at Camp Earl Wallace
August 2, 2001
Phil Glass, left, an employee of Camp Earl Wallace in neighboring Wayne County, examines "Gus" the Gator after the locally famous critter was delivered to the camp last week by Willard Johnson, right, and Alan B. Gibson.

The youth conservation camp asked to take possession of the small alligator to use in their wildlife show.

Johnson and Allen Smith captured the small gator recently in Dale Hollow Lake. Several attempts to capture the gator had been made and the escapades of those trying to net the creature, which was reported in the Clinton County News several weeks ago, have also been publicized in several area and state newspapers as well as on two Nashville, Tennessee television stations.

Camp Earl Wallace is a youth camp operated by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife agency.
