The number of local candidates, other than three who have filed for Soil Conservation Board seats, is still under the double-digit total as of the end of the day Monday, July 28, according to the County Clerk’s office.

Only three total candidates have filed over the past two weeks--all for Albany City Council positions. This brings the total number of candidates for council to seven, including four incumbents.

Those persons who have filed since last report, all for city council seats, include: James “Smitty” Smith and Frankie Stockton, both current incumbents and former city council member Doug Thrasher.

Six of seven council candidates include either incumbent or former council members. A total of six can be elected for the total number of candidates that appear on the ballot.

As of Monday, no candidates had filed for school board member in any of the three districts--two, three and four--that are up for election this year.

All local candidates are elected on a non-partisan basis. Council members serve two-year terms and school board members, gave four year terms.

The filing deadline for candidate’s names to appear on the ballot in November is just two weeks away, on Tuesday, August 12 at 4:30 p.m.
