The Albany-Clinton County Rec/Park Board held its regular meeting last Thursday evening, August 29. Some 11 members were on hand, with the majority of the discussion centering around making final plans for this past weekend’s Labor Day fireworks show and other events that were held at Mountain View Park on Saturday, August 31.

(A separate article on that event appears on page 1.)

Other than finalizing items for the weekend events, they also touched on future fundraisers, such as softball tournaments. It was also mentioned of the possibility of having one large fundraiser instead of too many ongoing smaller events.

The board has been working the past several months in raising money to purchase new children’s playground equipment.

They also discussed the possibility of applying for grants, even if they are matching funds, to help purchase the equipment sometime next year.

The board also approved the monthly treasurer’s report, which showed a balance of $8,761.16 at the end of July, with pending deposits of $2,465.00 from the US 127 Yard Sale proceeds.

On a motion by Board Member Paula Little, seconded by Gina Poore, the board voted to send a fruit basket to Board Member Randy Speck, who is currently recovering from heart surgery.

The next regular meeting of the park board is scheduled for Thursday, September 26 at 6 p.m. at Mountain View Park and is open to the general public.
