Out of the 118 graduating seniors at GRREC member Clinton County High School this year, 85 percent met the state benchmark requirements in mathematics. The seniors will not be required to take remedial math classes. The U.S. Department of Education states only 27 percent of students who take remedial courses earn a college degree.
Clinton County Superintendent Charlotte Bernard said, “I am very proud of our math department and our senior graduates. Their hard work has opened the door for the future of our graduates’ college education. The addition of the Senior College Prep Math Program has proven to be very successful.”
The program was developed by James DeForest, former project BEAM instructor at Somerset Community College. It added 59 to the seniors’ benchmark beginning number of 41. The addition was a 144 percent increase in senior class members.
