The Clinton County Football team won its second game in a row Friday night against McCreary Central, 44-24.

The Bulldogs went up 30-0 before McCreary County scored a touchdown, but Head Coach Jamie Miller said the first 15-18 minutes of the game was probably the best the team has played since he has been coach.

“I hope they didn’t get complacent because we could do whatever we wanted to,” Miller said. “Instead of staying on them and putting them away totally, they felt a little bit of life.”

With the score 30-0, McCreary County was able to score a touchdown and recover an onside kick to give them the ball back on the next possession.

“The ball took a very inopportune bounce over one of our guy’s head and they were able to recover it and score again,” Miller said.

McCreary Central scored two touchdowns just before halftime to cut the lead to 30-12.

“We opened up the second half with a touchdown and then we fell back and weren’t putting them away,” Miller said. “We need to play the same way for the entire game. We were able to get everyone in the game, which doesn’t happen a lot here. I saw some good things out of some young players.”

Miller said his younger guys as well as his starters are starting to make plays they are capable of making.

“They showed me a lot during that game,” Miller said. “I’m just really pleased with them.”

Up next for the football team will be Jenkins. Last season, the Bulldogs defeated Jenkins, 46-6.

“They opened up last year and scored on the first drive and that was all we gave them,” Miller said.

This Friday night will also be Homecoming for Clinton County with festivities starting around 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
