Grand jury has busy October session

Two individuals, one from Tennessee and one from Albany, who led police on high speed chases recently, are facing multiple charges after being indicted last Thursday, October 12 by a local grand jury, which returned indictments against 11 total individuals, several being multi-count true bills handed down in open Circuit Court.

Andrew W. Maxfield, 27, of Tennessee, was named in 16 total charges, including 10 felony counts and six misdemeanors as the result of a high speed chase that began in Tennessee and ended in Clinton County on August 29.

Maxfield was indicted for terroristic threatening (Class A misdemeanor); assault third degree (Class D felony); disorderly conduct first degree (Class A misdemeanor); speeding; assault third degree, Class D felony, by striking (Pickett County) Sheriff Dana Dowdy’s patrol vehicle with his SUV; failure to maintain insurance; two counts of criminal mischief (Class D felonies) by defacing or damaging property of two individuals causing over $1,000 in damages; fleeing or evading police on foot (Class D felony); reckless driving; operating a motor vehicle on a suspended or revoked license; fleeing or evading police first degree; and four total counts of wanton endangerment first degree involving a passenger that was in his vehicle during the high speed chase and three different law enforcement officers by either running into, or attempting to run into police vehicles.

An Albany man, Nathan Gray, 32, was charged with 14 total counts, including nine misdemeanors and five felonies in relation to a high speed chase over at least two counties that occurred on October 4. Not all of the charges were a result of the chase, some were drug related as well.

The grand jury charged the defendant with two counts of possession of a controlled substance not in original container (Class B misdemeanors); possession of drug paraphernalia (Class A misdemeanor); possession of a controlled substance first degree (Class D felony); speeding; failure to maintain insurance; reckless driving; no/expired registration plates; operating a motor vehicle under the influence; operating a motor vehicle on a suspended or revoked license; wanton endangerment first degree (Class D felony) by attempting to strike a police car while driving at a high rate of speed; fleeing or evading police (Class D felony); and two counts of persistent felony offender by committing the offenses of fleeing or evading police and wanton endangerment after having been stood convicted of a prior felony offense within the last five years.

Other indictments handed down by the grand jury last week:

* Kyle K. Riddle, the alleged offenses of failure to maintain insurance (Class B misdemeanor); no/expired registration plates; operating a motor vehicle under the influence (Class B misdemeanor) and operating a motor vehicle under the influence, four or subsequent offense, a Class D felony. The alleged offenses having occurred on or about May 27.

* Ashley D. Fairchild, the alleged offenses of possession of a controlled substance first degree; promoting contraband first degree, Class D felonies and persistent felony offender second degree by committing the offense of promoting contraband after having been stood of being convicted of a felony within the past five years. The alleged offenses occurred on or about July 24.

* Carlos Abraham, the alleged offenses of trafficking in a controlled substance first offense (hydrocodone) and trafficking in a controlled substance first degree, the alleged offenses having occurred on or about April 12 and July 28, respectively.

* Michael S. Perdue, the alleged offenses of possession of a controlled substance first degree (two counts), Class D felony and possession of drug paraphernalia, Class A misdemeanor. The alleged offenses having occurred on or about July 22.

* Melissa Perdue, the alleged offenses of possession of a controlled substance first degree (two counts), Class D felony and possession of drug paraphernalia, Class A misdemeanor, the alleged offenses having occurred on or about July 22.

* Jordan Lavan, the alleged offense of theft by deception (six counts) by issuing cold checks to six different businesses/individuals, four of which were over $500 (Class D felony) and two under $500, (Class A misdemeanor). The alleged offenses having occurred on different dates during the month of September.

* Ricky Perdue, the alleged offense of assault first degree, Class B felony, by stabbing another individual, causing serious physical injury. The alleged offense having occurred on or about July 30.

* Quentin Stowell, the alleged offense of trafficking in a controlled substance first degree, first offense (methamphetamine), Class D felony. The alleged offense having occurred on or about August 25.

* Richard Roberts, the alleged offense of theft by failure to make required disposition with said property having a value of more than $10,000, Class C felony. The alleged offense having occurred on or about July 20.
