A Fountain Run man is behind bars after another resident of his community was found murdered on Tuesday, July 9.

According to Kentucky State Police Public Relations officer Billy Gregory, Kassey Russell, 25, of Fountain Run, was arrested in a hotel in Bowling Green at 11:47 p.m. on Tuesday night on an unrelated warrant and was then charged with the murder of Roger G. Mansfield, age 53.

Mansfield, whose body was found at his home on Cherry Street on Tuesday morning, is believed to have been killed several hours prior, but the exact cause of death is unknown at this time. The body, Gregory added, has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Louisville and was scheduled for an autopsy last Wednesday, July 10.

Russell, who was arrested by KSP personnel from the Bowling Green post, has been lodged in the Monroe County Jail without bond. The incident is being investigated by KSP Detective Bradley Stotts with assistance from Fountain Run Police Chief Harold Brown.

According to sources outside the investigation, Brown originally went to the Mansfield residence to check on him after it was reported that his car was located in a creek bed in rural Allen County. Once at the scene, Brown found Mansfield’s body inside the residence and notified KSP for their assistance.

Throughout the day, law enforcement from Monroe and Allen counties worked with the KSP while the Crime Scene Unit personnel scoured Mansfield’s home. More information is expected in the case by was unavailable at press time.
