For the first time in months since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the court system across Kentucky, courtrooms are once again open and cases are being heard in open session. Clinton County District Court Judge Mike Lawson was the first to preside in an open courtroom after the court system was re-opened last week, as District Court cases were heard in the Clinton County Courthouse on Tuesday morning.
The monthly term of Clinton Circuit Court was held last Thursday, June 10 with Circuit Judge David L. Williams presiding over another heavy case load.

Clinton Fiscal Court held a special meeting last Thursday morning, May 13, with three items of business on the agenda for the short meeting.
The court approved two resolutions seeking DLG utility funding, possible FEMA funding and approved cash transfers.
The court approved a resolution authorizing Clinton County Judge/Executive Ricky Craig to file an application to be submitted to the Kentucky Department for local Government (DLG) for funding under the Community Development Block Grant (DDBG) Program.
The Clinton County Grand Jury, meeting for the second time in-person since the COVID-19 pandemic began, had an extremely full monthly term when convening on Thursday, May 6. The 12 member panel returned a host of indictments in open circuit court, with the majority involving multi-count charges.

* John Glen Diamond, the alleged offenses of operating a motor vehicle under the influence (aggravating circumstances); resisting arrest
Albany City Council turned out to have a busy 50 minute regular meeting last Tuesday, May 4, with several items discussed. All members were present for the meeting.
Albany Mayor Lyle Pierce opened the meeting by congratulating the South Central Athletics Varsity Kentucky for winning the Quest to Disney’s ESPN and winning the grand championship at the finals, as well as congratulating the Clinton County Bulldogs baseball team for winning its first ever All “A” 4th Region Championship.

The Clinton County Early Childhood Center will host the 13th Annual Kindergarten Commencement exercises over a four day period, covering three total days next week at the ECC facility.
The graduation program will be staggered by classes, as well as a day for youngsters who were in virtual learning. Commencement dates will be Tuesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 20, and begin on Monday, May 17, with a drive-through ceremony for students participating in virtual learning.

State Auditor Mike Harmon has released the audit of the financial statement of the Clinton County Fiscal Court for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020. State law requires annual audits of county fiscal courts.
Auditing standards require the auditor’s letter to communicate whether the financial statement presents fairly the receipts, disbursements, and changes in fund balances of the Clinton County Fiscal Court in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America.

The Kentucky State Police, London Post is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on KY 90 in the Monticello area of Wayne County at approximately 10:33 pm Monday, April 19, 2021.
The initial investigation indicates that a 2001 Ford Pickup operated by Nicholas K. Kates, 26 years old of Berea, KY, was traveling west on KY 90 when he lost control of his vehicle and ran into a ditch.

During the month, the department issued 38 citations involving 28 separate violations.
Citations issued for the month include: three each for expired registration receipt; assault-third degree; failure to appear and probation violation. There were two citations each for: reckless driving and operating on a suspended license.
