After 2020 COVID-19 shutdown, fair return features favorites mixed with new events

The COVID-19 pandemic affected about all aspects of life as we know it during the calendar year 2020, including causing the cancellation of almost all major annual events across the country and including here in Albany and Clinton County. The 2020 Clinton County Fair last year was no exception.

However, with a new year and the pandemic threat seemingly almost at its end, the Clinton County Fair will resume in 2021 and the local fair board has worked hard over the past several months to put together a program of events for the entire family.

There will be eight total days of day and nighttime events, beginning this coming Saturday, June 26 and concluding the day prior to Independence Day–on Saturday, July 3.

    Another drug related arrest

    Local law enforcement officers continue to battle the war on drugs in our community, making one additional arrest on drug related charges.

    During the past week, the following suspect was arrested and charged as follows:

    Shayden R. Adams, 18, of Albany, Kentucky, was arested on June 16, 2021, by Clinton County Deputy Sheriff Chris McGuffin.

    Chamber fireworks will go ‘BOOM!’

    again July 4

    Clinton County residents and tourists here for the holiday period will once again be treated to a free July 4 celebration fireworks show, coordinated by the Albany- Clinton County Chamber of Commerce.

    Back for another year, the annual fireworks show presented by the Chamber of Commerce will be held on Sunday, July 4, and is set to get underway just at dark, which should be around 8:30 – 9:00 p.m.

    Court approves $17 million budget

    Clinton County Fiscal Court held a longer than usual regular meeting last Thursday, June 17, with all court members present. One half of the total one hour and 10 minute meeting was held in executive session, on personnel matters prior to adjournment.

    Among business items voted on was second reading of the just under $17.4 million 2021-22 fiscal year budget, awarding of road materials and other items.

    School board meets Monday night

    Clinton County Board of Education held its regular monthly business meeting Monday night of this week with four of five members on hand and several items of business on the meeting agenda.

    The meeting opened with the adoption of the board agenda, followed by the Moment of Inspiration, which was delivered by student Sydnee Albertson and followed with prayer led by Autumn McCutchen.

    Burton sentenced to 20 years

    One of two defendants charged in the brutal beating and robbery of an elderly Clinton County woman in early January of last year has taken a plea agreement in Clinton Circuit Court.

    Christopher Burton took the plea agreement offered by the Commonwealth during the monthly term of Clinton Circuit Court last Thursday, June 10.

    Under terms of the plea bargain, the prosecution recommended dismissing charges of two counts of persistent felony offender.

    Fiscal court approves revised 911 county road mapping

    Clinton County’s 911 mapping and county road listing will soon be updated and complete, following action taken last Thursday morning, June 10, during a call meeting of Clinton Fiscal Court.

    The court unanimously approved, via resolution, a revised 911 Mapping of county roads presented by 911 Mapping Coordinator Renea Wells.

    Recent developments indicate pandemic state may be over while caution remains

    Although there was more movement in the number of cases of COVID-19 among Clinton County residents in the past week than has been seen in the past several weeks, there were several signs that we are slowly heading out of the pandemic that has changed lifestyles for nearly a year and a half.
