Three Clinton County Middle School fifth grade students were recently honored by the Clinton County Retired Teachers’ Association for their winning essay entries in the annual Grandparent of the Year Essay contest.

The winning essay was written this year by Nate Matthews, above left, with Kaylynn Dalton, center, earning second place honors and London Honeycutt placing third.

The contest was the local event that ties into the AARP Kentucky and the Kentucky Retired Teachers’ Association contest that is sponsored on a national basis.

As the local winner, Matthews’ essay will be submitted for district competition. Winners on the district level continue to see their entry submitted to the Kentucky level of the competition.

The three local winners were honored last week by the Clinton County Retired Teachers’ Association during a luncheon meeting.

The three winning essays are being reprinted this week in the Clinton County News.
