City officers were told during last Thursday night’s City Commission meeting, to crack down on flea market-type sales which are continuing to pop up around town. The group had also asked City Attorney Reed Moore to gather surrounding cities’ yard sale ordinances to view.

Moore noted that the City of Glasgow allows everyone to have one yard sale per quarter but require homeowners to obtain a free permit from City Hall. However, Commissioners were hesitant to go that far on the action, asking instead for a designation between sales held on a person’s own property and those being held on property not owned by the person having the sale.

Another distinction that was discussed was the fact that anyone selling new items or produce within the city limits would be required to purchase a business license. Police officers were told to begin enforcing the existing ordinance immediately.
