Right on target
Congratulations are in order for a young Clinton County archer, Jase Boils, who this past weekend picked up a first place finish in the prestigious national archery tournament, the Archery Shooters Association Archery Classic, held in Cullman, Alabama.
Jase is the son of Phillip and Joanna Boils, of Albany.
While archery is certainly not a new sport, it has become increasingly popular in recent years in terms of a competitive sport for youth rather than just another method of hunting.

Fall sports already underway
The 2013-14 school year began for students this Tuesday, and as I mentioned last week, along with the start of a new school year, the start of the new sports season – the fall sports lineup at Clinton County High School.
We’re currently working on our annual Fall Sports Big Blue Preview at the Clinton County News, but because of the varied nature of the sports lineup starting date, this particular special section is our most difficult to get together.
While we’re shooting for a publication date of August 22, which falls the week of the start of the football season, a few of the fall sports will have already had a few games/matches by then.
In fact, the Golf Dawgs and Lady Golf Dawgs actually got their seasons started before the first classes were held this week, with the Golf Dawgs playing in the Dale Hollow Invitational this past Friday at Dale Hollow Lake State Park, while the Lady Golf Dawgs traveled to Tompkinsville to play in the Monroe County Invitational on Friday and then to Campbellsville on Saturday for the Taylor County Invitational.
Additional golf team matches on slate for the next week saw both teams slated to play in a tri-match this past Tuesday at Dale Hollow against Cumberland County and Metcalfe County. The Dawgs will face Cumberland and Russell counties at Dale Hollow on Thursday, August 8 and on Saturday, August 10, they travel to Bowling Green for the Warren East Invitational, while the Lady Golf Dawgs will play in the Lady Trojan Invitational on Saturday in Glasgow.
Looking ahead, the remaining teams will see schedules getting underway the week of August 19, with the Volley Dawgs season starting on that date by hosting Adair County (5:30).
Girls’ soccer also starts August 19 by hosting Whitley County (5:30), the boys’ soccer team travels to Barren County on August 20 for the season opener (5:30).
The Gridiron Dawgs will kick off the 2013 campaign with a Meet The Bulldogs event on Saturday, August 16 at Bulldog Field at 6:00 p.m. The Dawgs will get the season underway the following Friday, August 23, when they play host to neighboring Pickett County, Tennessee in a Border Wars battle that is slated for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
The only other remaining fall sport, Cross Country, will see a later start for the 2013 season.
After several weeks of little or no organized sporting activity locally, things sure got busy in a hurry.
Whew – play ball!
