Clinton hosts All “A” Golf

High school golfers from across the region – Clinton County to Russellville – converged onto Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park golf course Monday afternoon for what turned out to be a gorgeous afternoon for a golf tournament.

Although it was hot, more importantly – an somewhat odd for this particular year – it was dry and to the credit of our CCHS athletic department and golf team staff – everything went off without a hitch.

What had originally been slated as a two day event – first for the girls then the boys, was combined due to heavy rains last week that forced the closing of the course on the day the ladies were to play.

Monday’s nine-hole tournament play saw the girls competing on the front nine holes, with the boys on the back nine.

Kudos first of all go to the coaches, AD staff and the volunteers that made Monday’s event one that Clinton County can be proud of as a host – it was top notch.

Then there were our Lady Golf Dawgs and Golf Dawgs, both of which had good days, as teams and individuals.

Nick Irwin’s and Adam Marcum’s Golf Dawgs placed second with a team score of 172, behind first place Glasgow with a team total 156. Individually, congrats goes to Kenny Stinson who qualified for the All “A” Classic State Tournament by carding a five-over 41 on the back nine.

Stinson won a three-player sudden death playoff, which also included teammate Jeff Brown, to win the second place medalist honors and the right to advance to the state tournament.

Golf Dawg Kolby Smith and Kyle Choate each carded rounds of 45 Monday.

On the girls’ side, Coach Lynn Starnes’ Lady Golf Dawgs finished third in Monday’s event, behind champion Glasgow and runner-up Monroe County.

Individually, Lady Dawg Macy Campbell narrowly missed making the All “A” Classic state tournament cut by just two strokes after finishing with a round of 42, and teammate Bree Boils was just three strokes out of state play with a 43.

Teammates Ansley Stalcup came into the clubhouse with a 45 and Samantha Stinson rounded out the Lady Dawgs’ scoring with a 48.

I watched and photographed from two holes during Monday’s play, number 14 on the boys side and hole nine on the girls’. Believe me, these young players can play some really nice golf and are fun to watch, especially if you truly appreciate the game of golf.

All in all, Monday’s All “A” Classic golf regional was a great event, with fantastic weather for golf, and a success for Clinton County High School as the host school.

Congrats to all.
