School board meets Friday

Clinton County Board of Education held a call meeting last Friday afternoon at the Central Office. All members, as well as Board Attorney Lindsey Bell, were present for the 40-minute special session.

The first item of business on the agenda was again a closed session to discuss personnel. Following the approximate half-hour executive session, the board returned to open session and announced “no action taken.”

Two other items of business were on the agenda last Friday.

The board, on a motion by Junior Cecil, voted unanimously to approve the contract with Adanta for the 2013-14 school year.

Adanta provides counseling to students who are referred by faculty members, but only with parental permission for the counseling to take place.

The only other item of business on last week’s agenda was the approval of the Head Start lease for the 2013-14 school year, provided Head Start provides adequate liability insurance.

Upon the advice of Board Attorney Bell, however, board members opted to table final approval until an insurance amount is added into the contract. Attorney Bell suggested adding a $1 million amount clause into the contract with Lake Cumberland Head Start to cover the insurance liability issue.

The board is expected to vote on the lease at its next regular meeting, which is scheduled for next Monday evening, September 9 at 5 p.m. at the Central Office and is open to the general public.
