Dawgs earn a big “W” – chapter 3

Miller for President?

Coach Jamie Miller has put together a start for this football campaign that hasn’t been equaled in the history of this modern day Clinton County football program.

Clinton County picked up a second straight road win Friday night with a 46-6 thumping over the Cavaliers of Jenkins High School in far eastern Kentucky.

The Dawgs are sitting on a 3-1 season record that is the best start for a Clinton County team since football was re-introduced into the athletic program with the 2006 season.

In that initial year, Coach George Hatcher led Clinton County to an overall 4-5 record, after a 2-2 start that at one point saw the Dawgs with a winning 4-2 mark.

As I mentioned last week, Miller’s strategy with this season was to take Clinton County out of district competition, and construct a season that would be conducive to building a program here, pitting the Dawgs against similar sized programs in hopes of picking up a few wins along the way.

Obviously, it’s working and our players are beginning to pick up a taste for winning.

Congrats again to our gridiron Dawgs, and to Jamie for grabbing yet another win.

Clinton County will board the bus again this Friday night for the third of four in a row road trips, this time heading west to Hart County to go up against the Colonels of Caverna.

The Colonels are coming into Friday night’s matchup with a 0-4 record, most recently suffering a 26-12 defeat this past week at the hands of their cross-county rivalry, Hart County.

The Bulldogs will finish this road run the following Friday with a short trip to Edmonton to take on the Hornets of Metcalfe, before returning home for a game against Lynn Camp on October 4.

Other fall sports

Action continues in the other fall sport venues on the Clinton County High School offerings.

The girls soccer team plays host to Monroe County this Thursday (September 19), then hits the road on Monday and Tuesday of next week, traveling to Oneida and McCreary Central, respectively.

The boys soccer team will participate in the Trojan Classic at Barren County Thursday and Saturday, then play host on Monday and Tuesday of next week to Barren County and Campbellsville.

Our Volley Dawgs are on the road Thursday and Monday, traveling to Metcalfe and McCreary, before returning home to host the Cardinals of Wayne County next Tuesday.

Finally, the golf schedules are beginning to wind down as the Golf Dawgs and Lady Golf Dawgs head toward district and regional play. Regional golf tournaments are slated to be held Monday, September 30, with the girls playing at Tompkinsville’s Hidden Hills Country Club while the boys will head to Franklin and Kenny Perry’s Country Creek Golf Course.
