4-H program continues to grow, new after-school clubs to form

As our 4-H program continues to grow, we will be offering some new after school clubs that will meet at different times over the next several months. If you are interested in joining these clubs, please contact the Extension Office at 387-5404 or email me at brandon.pharis@uky.edu so that we may get you more information and get our new 4-Hers registered. All of our clubs are offered to both boys and girls ages 9-18.

FISHING CLUB: This is a multi-county club that we offer with Russell County. 4-Hers will meet at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery from 5:00-6:30 on the first Tuesday of each month. Students will learn more about the biology of fish, new fishing techniques, and will try to fish at each meeting. Youth under the age of 16 do not require a fishing license. This club has already met once, and will meet again October 1st. You may be able to join at any time and the club is free to join!

SEWING CLUB: Boys and girls are invited to become part of a new sewing club that will be provided through the 4-H Program. This club will emphasize basic sewing skills and will progress to larger projects as time goes on. There are a limited number of spots for this club, if you want to register please contact us as soon as possible. This club has a $15 enrollment fee for materials associated with projects. Projects made can be enrolled at the 2014 Clinton County Fair.

4-H AMBASSADORS: This is open to all high school students who wish to give back and help with the other 4-H programs. This is designed for high school students who want to have a leadership role in 4-H. Some of the duties associated with being an Ambassador will be attending 4-H Council meetings, helping with other clubs/camps, assisting the Agent or Program Assistant, or potentially leading community projects. For more information, contact Brandon Pharis or Mrs. Martha Harlan at CCHS. Deadline for all applications are September 20th.

GPS/GIS: During our winter months, we will offer a club that will use GPS hand-held devices to map out different components of Clinton County. For example, one of our first projects will be to make a Barn Quilt Trail of Clinton County. This can also lead into potential future careers associated with GPS/GIS and computer information systems. Look for more information coming to school soon.
