The Clinton County Football team traveled to Caverna Friday night for the third of a four game road trip. Even though the Bulldogs put up a hard fought battle, Clinton County couldn’t hang on for its fourth win in a row.

Clinton County fell behind early in the game 13-0, and the Bulldogs remained scoreless until the fourth quarter with five minutes remaining.

Clinton County then put the ball in the end-zone twice and forced overtime, 13-13.

“We had several penalties. I never want to leave the game in the official’s hands at the end of the game, but there were several penalties called that really hurt us,” Head Coach Jamie Miller said. “We were able to score and hold them to three out and we scored again to send it to overtime.

“We lost Tristan (Lehman) and Gabe (Stalcup) and we put Josh Shelton in and he stepped up for us,” Miller said.

In overtime, Caverna scored first and got the extra point to move up 20-13.

Clinton County was then able to put the ball in the end-zone for a touchdown, but instead of going for the extra point, Miller went for the two-point conversion and the win.

“We fell a little short of the two points in overtime,” Miller said. “I felt like we played well defensively and I bet we had 100 yards called back on us. We need to be more mentality focused at the start of the game.”

As time ran out, Clinton County picked up its second loss of the season, 20-19, and move to 3-2 on the year.

Next Friday night, the Bulldogs will travel to Metcalfe County for the team’s final road game of the four game stretch.

“It will be the toughest we will have all year. If we go out and execute we will be good,” Miller said. “We have to go out and take care of our end of the field and I think we can win the game.”

Kick off for Friday night’s game is set for 7 p.m.

Following Friday night’s game, Clinton County will be back at home on Bulldog Field for two weeks, with Lynn Camp on October 4, and Red Bowling Springs, TN on October 11. Those games are set for 7 p.m. kick offs.
