Kentuckians can soon buy health coverage a new way: through kynect, Kentucky’s Healthcare Connection. kynect will offer choices of health plans at a good value. Coverage cannot be denied or canceled, even if you have a condition like high blood pressure or diabetes. kynect can help you find quality coverage. It can help even if you were denied coverage before or could not afford it. It’s a new kind of health insurance marketplace – convenient and easy to use.
Open enrollment begins October 1, 2013
It’s easy to apply, and coverage can begin as early as January 1, 2014. Just fill out one application to see if you can save money. kynect will show plans and prices. It also checks for low-cost or free coverage through Medicaid and KCHIP, the Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program. Open enrollment ends March 31, 2014.

More information will be available soon regarding special groups trained and available locally to help you find the best healthcare plan for you, your family, and your budget.

Weight Loss Wars:
Clinton vs. Cumberland
It’s battle time-let’s Pound the Panthers! Registration, weigh in, and kickoff event for both counties will be held on Tuesday, October 1st from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Clinton Center (KCTCS site on Hwy 90). Weekly weigh in and educational lessons will be held at the Clinton County Extension Office each Tuesday through December 10th. Lesson times will vary this year (Breakfast Bites 7:30-8:00 a.m., Lunch and Learn 11:30-12:00 noon or 12:00-12:30 p.m., and Supper Strategies from 5:00-5:30 p.m.). Participants can weigh in from 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. weekly regardless of lesson time. One-time registration fees are due October 1st (Individual $10; Couple/Pair $15; Family/Team of up to six individuals $20). Winners will be announced at the Clinton vs. Cumberland Basketball Game in Burkesville on December 17th. For more information, contact the Extension Office at 387-5404.
Decorative Shopping Bag Class
A creative design class for reusable shopping bags will be held at the Clinton County Extension Office on October 1st at 5:00 p.m. Rae Williams will be the instructor. For more information and to register, contact the Extension Office at 387-5404.
Second Sunday Health Fair/Pumpkin Walk/Play and Learn
Several events are being planned in conjunction with the Foothills Festival Gospel Singing on Sunday, October 13th. All activities will take place at the Clinton County Learning Center. Second Sunday Health Fair, Pumpkin Walk, and Play and Learn (PAL) events will be held from 1:30-4:00 p.m. Activities which will include free health screenings, games, physical activities, and swimming at the nearby Wellness Center. Community organizations will also be on site to share information about available programs and resources. PAL will offer hands-on learning activities for children up to age 8\eight. Parents will receive information on kindergarten readiness and each family will receive a free Take Home Education Kit to enhance learning at home.
