The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, along with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department were on scene last Monday, September 16, in what started as a potential drowning at Grider Hill Dock, but was later ruled a suicide after officers found a suicide note from Andy Barnett of Monticello.

According to KDFW officer Wayne Glover, Barnett, 47, was found by Jamestown Fire and Rescue with the use of an underwater camera.

“He was found in about 115 feet of water. They took a camera down and hooked him,” Glover said. “We were notified about 8 p.m. on the 16th.”

According to Glover, a couple of people walking by Barnett’s boat had heard a splash and when they went back, he was missing.

“They went inside his boat and found a suicide note,” Glover said.

According to Coroner Steve Talbott, the official cause of death was drowning. Talbott said Barnett chained a boat anchor to his leg before jumping into Lake Cumberland.
