Charles Coop scholarship

Sergeant Major Roy Coop, U.S. Army-Retired, has created the Charles Coop Scholarship in memory of his brother, who was a Vietnam Veteran.

The scholarship will be awarded to the graduating senior who has completed four years of science courses and has achieved the highest grade point average in these courses. Upon graduating from high school, the selected student will receive a check for $5,000.

This scholarship will begin in 2014 and continue until 2018.

The purpose of this financial award is to encourage students to pursue careers in various fields of science and to assist with first year college expenses.

Retired Teachers school supplies

The Clinton County Retired Teachers are conducting a School Supplies Drive for Albany Elementary. Items requested are Kleenex, flash drives, sticky notes, binder clips and dry erase markers. Also monetary donations will be accepted and these supplies will be purchased. Donations can be dropped off at the Clinton County Hospital Gift Shop or brought to the October meeting of the Retired Teachers. The drive will conclude on October 17 at the meeting of the Clinton County Retired Teachers.

Clinton County 4-H offering Sewing Club

The Clinton County 4-H Program is offering a Sewing Club to any boy or girl ages 9-18. The club will meet on Tuesdays starting October 1st from 3:30-4:30 and will last through December 16th at the Extension Office.

There will be a $15 fee to cover the cost of supplies. The club will cover the basics of sewing and 4-Hers will create a quilt and bag that they will be able to keep and enter in the 2014 Clinton County Fair.

Swimming lessons offered

Have you never learned to swim? Always wished you could?

Twin Lakes Wellness Center will be having an Adult Learn to Swim Class October 7-11 at 6 p.m. Cost is $45 and registration ends October 6.

TLFWC is also offering a Swim II October 7-11 at 5 p.m.

Swimming lessons for beginners will be October 7-11 at 4 p.m. ages 4-7 years old. Registration ends October 6.

Flu shots offered

With flu season starting early this year, we have partnered with Silver Sneakers and Walgreens to bring the flu clinic to the Wellness Center this fall.

The date is October 7 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

All our members who have a Silver Sneakers membership are able to receive their flu shots for FREE. Those with Medicare/medicade or Wellcare can also qualify for free or reduced cost Flu Shots, other insurances accepted also.

Free Zumba classes

Twin Lakes Family Wellness Center is offering a free Zumba Class. Come out and see what all the moving and noise is about. Loose weight, tone muscles and have fun with our new Zumba class. Introductory sessions through the end of September with a new six week session starting in October. Classes are now free with membership.

Good Neighbors Theatre seeks

donations for Roller Coaster Yard Sale

Good Neighbors Theatre is participating in the Roller Coaster Yard Sale the weekend of October 4-5 at their location at 8780 Highway 111 in Byrdstown.

Donations of items to sell are being accepted now. For anyone having items they would like to be rid of, but don’t like having their own yard sale, this is a perfect opportunity to clean out and help at the same time.

Funds raised for the event help GNT to continue produce quality live entertainment on their stage. Delivery or pick-up of items to be donated can be arranged by contacting Fannie at 931-824-4290.

Leave a message if she is unavailable when you call. GNT encourages everyone to stop by on October 4 or 5 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to purchase some bargains.

The CCHS Class of 1993 will hold it’s 20-year class reunion Saturday, September 28 at 7 p.m. at Sunset Marina restaurant. We hope to see you there. 49-2p

Foothills Festival Parade theme

The Foothills Festival Parade will be held Friday, October 18, 2013 at 5 p.m. Floats must be decorated in the theme: “My Town.”

Rec/Park Board regular meeting

The Clinton County Recreation/Park Board will hold its regular meeting Thursday, September 26 at 6 p.m. at Mountain View Park. The meeting is open to the public.

The next “Crazy About Couponing” class will be held on Monday, September 30th at 6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. Bring your scissors, coupons, and tips to share! For more information, contact the Extension Office at 387-5404.

Weight Loss Wars:

Clinton vs. Cumberland

It’s battle time-let’s Pound the Panthers! Registration, weigh in, and kickoff event for both counties will be held on Tuesday, October 1st from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Clinton Center (KCTCS site on Hwy 90). Weekly weigh in and educational lessons will be held at the Clinton County Extension Office each Tuesday through December 10th. Lesson times will vary this year (Breakfast Bites 7:30-8:00 a.m., Lunch and Learn 11:30-12:00 p.m. or 12:00-12:30 p.m., and Supper Strategies from 5:00-5:30 p.m.).

Participants can weigh in from 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. weekly regardless of lesson time. One-time registration fees are due October 1st (Individual $10; Couple/Pair $15; Family/Team of up to six individuals $20).

Winners will be announced at the Clinton vs. Cumberland Basketball Game in Burkesville on December 17th.

CCHS Class of 1968 reunion

The Class of 1968 would like to invite all class members who attended CCHS with us from 1965-1968 to attend our 45th class reunion luncheon on November 9, 2013 starting at 12 noon Central Time. The BBQ luncheon will be held at the Clinton County Fairgrounds building in Albany. The cost is $15 each or $25 per couple, due by October 1. We have established an open Facebook page, Clinton Co., KY Class of 1968. Invitations are being sent out to the addresses we have on file. Twin Lakes Family Wellness Center is offering a Free CPR class to the community on Sept 26th. The only cost to you is $20 for the Red Cross Certification! To register for the class please stop by the Center.

Backyard Wiffleball Classic

The Backyard Wiffleball Classic tournament will be held Saturday, September 28, 2012 at Mountain View Park beginning at 1:30 p.m. There will be fun for all ages. We Are Bulldogs second annual showcase

Clinton County High School is proud to present the second annual academic showcase “We Are Bulldogs” on Thursday, September 26 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Parents, students, and the community are welcome to attend. This is the community’s chance to see what our students are doing in their classes. There will be student performances throughout the night as well as an opportunity to see our students perform in laboratory settings. There will also be food, fun and door prizes.
