Car show at CCHS Saturday

A car show will be held Saturday, October 5 from 5-8 p.m. at Clinton County High School. Admission is free and there will be food and drinks available. Entry fee is $10 per vehicles. Trophies will be awarded in 10 categories. All proceeds benefit the Senior Class of 2014 senior trip.

Author reading coming to

Albany Elementary

Looking for a new book for your kids that will entertain and teach them? Author Reading by Joan K. Moore of her new book P-i-c-k-l-e-s Spells Pickles will be presented Friday, October 11 at 9:30 a.m. at Albany Elementary School. All students, parents, guardians and grandparents are welcome to attend.

Joan grew up in Kettle, Kentucky and now lives in Schaumburg, Illinois. Joan’s mother, Joyce Kerr, taught her simple truths and valuable life lessons, which led her to begin writing inspirational children’s books. Pickles was one of the numerous cats owned by her mother. Joan chose Isaiah Ortiz, the 9-year-old son of a former colleague, to illustrate and bring Pickles to life.

Clinton Democrat Party picnic

The Clinton County Democrat Party will have a picnic (pitch-in) on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Farmer’s Market at Mountain View Park. The agenda will be as follows: 12:30-1 p.m., registration; 1-1:15 p.m., Pledge to flag and prayer; 1:15 p.m.., food will be served.

If you plan to attend the picnic you will need to bring a covered dish and your own table service. The local party will supply the meat. We will be accepting free will donations for local party expenses. The public is invited if anyone is interested in learning more about our local party. Anyone who’s thinking about running in the 2014 Democratic Primary should attend this pitch-in picnic if you seek Democratic support. Let all Democrats unite for a successful 2014.

If you have any questions about the picnic, call Steve Clark at 387-9855. Come and join us for good Democratic fun and fellowship. Your attendance is very important and we will be doing a sign-in sheet.

The Haunted End Zone

“The Haunted End Zone,” located behind the Cumberland County Middle School in Burkesville, will be held Friday and Saturday, October 11 and 12 from 6-10 p.m. each night. Cost is $5 to enter. There will also be chili, hot dogs, dessert and a drink for $5 (optional), even if you don’t go through “The Haunted End Zone.” All proceeds will go to the Cumberland County Little League football program.

Clinton County Extension Office

The Clinton County Extension Service will offer a series of webinars on forestry topics. The meetings will be live via computer from the University of Kentucky. Please call the Extension Office if you would like to attend one or all three meetings at (606) 387-5404.

Kentucky Master Loggers will receive one hour Continuing Education Credit for each meeting.

Woodland Management and Forest Certification

Woodland Management and Forest Certification will be held October 8 from 6-7 p.m. with Billy Thomas, Extension Forester, and Christopher Reeves, Certification Forester. Kentucky’s woodlands can be a valuable asset for their owners if they are given the proper care. Learn about the process of caring for your woodlands including activities, sources of assistance (including financial), and practices that will enhance your woodlands. You will also learn how forest certification is benefiting woodland owners in Kentucky. These benefits include increased markets and price premiums being received by woodland owners for their timber, increased technical assistance, and global recognition of your good stewardship. Certification is one of the many tools you will learn about in this webinar that can assist you in caring, protecting, and managing your woodlands for the future.

Selling Timber

Selling Timber class will be held November 12, from 6-7 p.m. with Jeff Stringer, Forestry Extension Professor Description: Participants will be provided up-to-date information on how to maximize timber revenues while protecting and improving their woodlands. Topics include how to sell your timber to maximize revenue and minimize taxes, how to use consultants and the Kentucky Division of Forestry to your advantage, selecting loggers and other important topics.

Class of 1978 reunion to be held

The Clinton County High School class of 1978 will have its 35th year class reunion on Saturday, October 19 (Foothills Festival weekend) at 5:00 pm at Dos Amigos (beside Lee’s Famous Recipe). Everyone will pay for their own meal and families are welcome.

IDA to hold regular meeting

The Clinton County Industrial Development Authority will hold its regular meeting Thursday, October 10 at 11 a.m. at the IDA-Welcome Center. The meeting is open to the general public.

Clinton County Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting Monday, October 14 at 5 p.m. at the Central Office board room. The meeting is open to the general public.

Retired Teachers School Supplies Drive

The Clinton County Retired Teachers are conducting a School Supplies Drive for Albany Elementary. Items requested are Kleenex, flash drives, sticky notes, binder clips and dry erase markers. Also monetary donations will be accepted and these supplies will be purchased. Donations can be dropped off at the Clinton County Hospital Gift Shop or brought to the October meeting of the Retired Teachers. The drive will conclude on October 17 at the meeting of the Clinton County Retired Teachers.

Flu shots offered

With flu season starting early this year, we have partnered with Silver Sneakers and Walgreens to bring the flu clinic to the Wellness Center this fall.

The date is October 7 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

All our members who have a Silver Sneakers membership are able to receive their flu shots for free. Those with Medicare/Medicade or Wellcare can also qualify for free or reduced cost flu Shots, other insurances accepted also.

Free Zumba classes

Twin Lakes Family Wellness Center is offering a free Zumba Class. Come out and see what all the moving and noise is about. Loose weight, tone muscles and have fun with our new Zumba class. Introductory sessions through the end of September with a new six week session starting in October. Classes are now free with membership.

Good Neighbors Theatre seeks

donations for Roller Coaster Yard Sale

Good Neighbors Theatre is participating in the Roller Coaster Yard Sale the weekend of October 4-5 at their location at 8780 Highway 111 in Byrdstown.

Donations of items to sell are being accepted now. For anyone having items they would like to be rid of, but don’t like having their own yard sale, this is a perfect opportunity to clean out and help at the same time.

Funds raised for the event help GNT to continue produce quality live entertainment on their stage. Delivery or pick-up of items to be donated can be arranged by contacting Fannie at 931-824-4290.

Leave a message if she is unavailable when you call. GNT encourages everyone to stop by on October 4 or 5 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to purchase some bargains.

The Foothills Festival Parade will be held Friday, October 18, 2013 at 5 p.m. Floats must be decorated in the theme: “My Town.”

CCHS Class of 1968 reunion

The Class of 1968 would like to invite all class members who attended CCHS with us from 1965-1968 to attend our 45th class reunion luncheon on November 9, 2013 starting at 12 noon Central Time. The BBQ luncheon will be held at the Clinton County Fairgrounds building in Albany. The cost is $15 each or $25 per couple, due by October 1. We have established an open Facebook page, Clinton Co., KY Class of 1968. Invitations are being sent out to the addresses we have on file.
