A Cumberland County man was killed in a one-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning, September 24.

According to Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Groce, Anthony Butler, 42, of Burkesville, was traveling south on Irish Bottom Road around 4 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and went over an embankment, overturning at least two times.

Cumberland County Coroner Gary White pronounced Butler dead at the scene.

Butler’s passenger, Steven Stone, 26, of Cumberland County, was not injured.

Neither were wearing seatbelts.

Assisting Groce at the scene were Cumberland County EMS, Cumberland County Rescue Squad, Burkesville Fire Department, Clinton County EMS and Albany Fire Department.

Groce said the accident was still under investigation.
