The Rec/Park Board held a call meeting last Thursday evening, October 3 at the park to make some final plans on another fundraising event they are having during the Foothills Festival next weekend.

During the meeting, Board Chairman Vince Ostertag announced that Equity Group had made a $5,000 donation to the park board.

In discussions concerning plans for additional fundraising efforts, the park board will have a tent set up in front of the Foothills Festival building near the food court and will be selling tickets on at least three baskets of items that will contain various donated prizes.

Among some of the prizes to be given away will include two University of Kentucky basketball tickets and four Atlanta Braves (2014 regular season) baseball tickets, just to name a couple.

Board members also agreed to solicit some local businesses for items to be put in the baskets to raffle off during the next weekend’s festival.

The tent will be set up Friday and Saturday, October 18 and 19 with the drawing for each basket to be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets will cost $1 each, six for $5 or people will have the choice to purchase an arm length of tickets for $20. People who purchase tickets do not have to be present to win.

All proceeds from this particular fundraiser will go directly to a separate fund to help purchase playground equipment for the park. Currently, the board has raised approximately $1,700 towards that goal.

Also during the meeting, Little League baseball president Turk Polston presented the board with a $450 check for the board’s part of receipts made from the concession stand during the past Little League season.

Board members expressed the opinion they would like to continue leasing out the concessions to the little league in exchange for a small percentage of profits, thus helping out both organizations. Polston also expressed his desire to see the league continue manning the concession stand during Little League season, adding they will try to get an earlier start to the season next year.

The next meeting of the Rec/Park Board is scheduled for Thursday, October 24 at 6 p.m. at Mountain View Park and is open to the general public.
