What makes a

community healthy?

By April Speck, Coordinator,

Clinton County Healthy Hometown Coalition

1. Making healthy choices the easy choices in your community.

2. Creating opportunities for physical activity, access to healthy food, transportation choices, social engagement, traffic injury and crime reduction, and accessibility to programs for all levels of income and abilities.

Clinton County Healthy Hometown Coalition is working on targeting the top four needs in our community, ensuring a healthier community for our children.

Why Clinton County?

The high risk rate of diseases and conditions associated with obesity (diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and activity limitation) are all significantly higher than national averages.

The percent of children in Clinton County who are at-risk of becoming or are already overweight or obese is significantly higher than state and national averages. One fourth of the county’s population consider themselves to be in poor or fair health.

Clinton County ranks 118 out of 120 for clinical care, with the county particularly low on all levels of preventative screenings. Thirty-one percent of our population is classified as physically inactive.

Please take the time to take our Healthy Hometown survey to help us focus on health care needs in our county https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/C78XZXT, or you can access it on Clinton County Schools webpage under Outreach Programs, Healthy Hometown and scroll to the bottom of the page.
