The Kentucky State Police, joined by local and federal law enforcement, initiated “Operation Black Friday” last week, arresting 479 people in what the KSP calls the largest one-day drug round-up in agency history.

In Russell County, a total of 26 individuals were arrested and charged through indictments handed up by the Russell County Grand Jury during a special session several weeks back and in its regular session last week, according to Jailer Bobby Dunbar.

As of Monday of this week, Dunbar said many of those who had been arrested and processed at the Russell County Detention Center have been released from custody after posting bond.

He also commended his entire staff at the detention center for the way they handled the situation on Friday as they showed true professionalism in his most trying day since taking office as jailer.

“I never heard a negative word from anybody,” Dunbar said of his staff. “I was proud of the way we handled the day.”

Indictment warrants still remain active for several more suspects who weren’t rounded up on Friday.
