Meet the Bulldogs / Big Blue Mania is Friday night

We’re still a couple of weeks away from the December 2 start of the 2013-14 roundball season in Clinton County, but this Friday night local fans can at least take advantage of a pre-season “teaser” event that promises to be worth attending.

Readers can find a separate article that begins on page 1 of this week’s Clinton County News with a more detailed account of the schedule for Friday night’s basketball pre-season event.

That article also includes an up-close look at the three new inductees who will be added to the C.C.H.S. Basketball Wall of Fame this year.

The annual Meet the Bulldogs / Big Blue Mania will get underway at 4:00 p.m. Friday with the Bulldog Booster Club fundraising supper in the C.C.H.S. cafeteria, which for just a $5 donation, will get you a pork or chicken bar-b-que dinner.

If you can’t make up your mind between pork or chicken bar-b-que, just splurge the $10 donation for one of each.

Then, at 6:00 p.m., the fun will move into the Lindle Castle Gymnasium for the start of the Meet the Bulldogs event. Introductions of players, staff, coaches and cheerleaders will be the main treat for the evening.

Of course fans will also get to watch some roundball action in a very informal setting as both the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs will be featured in short intra-squad scrimmages, giving Big Blue fans their first real look at what they might expect to enjoy watching on the hardwood this season.

Following the team and cheerleader introductions and those brief scrimmages, we move into the final portion of the night’s schedule, the Wall of Fame inductions.

Although I’ve been a member of the selection committee since the Wall of Fame was first introduced in 1999, I was completely surprised during the selection nomination meeting earlier this year when my own name was introduced – and voted in favor of – inclusion this year on the Wall of Fame.

It’s an honor I certainly cherish, as I’m sure all of the WOF members do.

Being inducted along with myself in this year’s grouping are two individuals who are certainly deserving of the honor, former Bulldog Kay Flowers and former Lady Bulldog and girls’ varsity assistant and head coach Jennifer Lee Preston.

All in all, it should be a fun night and a chance to quench the appetite of you basketball hungry fans out there.

Come on out and enjoy the fun!
