Meet the Bulldogs behind us, roundball just ahead

A nice crowd was on hand Friday night in the Lindle Castle Gymnasium for the annual Meet the Bulldogs.

It seemed everyone enjoyed the dinner prior to the festivities, and especially the events following – player introductions, cheerleader routines and scrimmages, as well as the inductions of the newest Wall of Famers.

As the event has grown over the past several years, I’ve also noticed that it has become a homecoming of sorts of the Lady Bulldog and Bulldog alumni attending each year. With gatherings taking place from one end of the gym to the other after everything is concluded as friends and former teammates catch up on happenings since they last saw each other.

It’s a pretty fun thing to watch as the “older” players tell tales and swap stories from their former playing days.

Of course it’s always good to see the “dean” himself, Coach Lindle Castle, who showed up with Mary Helen for Friday night’s gathering.

All in all – it was another great start to what should be a very fun year for both teams and the fans following them.

Of course, congratulations are in order to Jennifer Lee Preston and Kay Flowers who joined yours truly in being inducted onto the Wall of Fame this past Friday night. I know for myself it was an honor I will never forget or take for granted, and I appreciate all of those who stopped by and offered me words of congratulations.

Now, with just a couple more scrimmages ahead of us, we’re almost set to hit the ground running with the 2013-14 regular season.

Schedules are ready and can be picked up at the high school or here at the Clinton County News office and readers should be enjoying this week’s Big Blue Preview that is included in your newspaper this week and is chock full of information about the Dawgs and Lady Dawgs and offers up plenty of insight about the teams and individuals we’ll be following this season.

First game for the Dawgs is Monday, December 2 when they play host to Rockcastle County in a season opener set for a 5:30 junior varsity start, then on Thursday, December 5, the Dawgs are at home again when we host Somerset in a night also with a 5:30 JV start.

On Friday night, December 6, the Lady Dawgs get into action, traveling to Warren East for a 6:00 p.m. junior varsity start, followed by a slew of games at home on Saturday, December 7, when we host Franklin-Simpson in a full evening of basketball with the girls’ junior varsity taking the floor at 3:00 p.m., followed by the girls’ varsity, at 4:30, then the boys’ junior varsity at about 6:00 p.m. and finally the boys varsity at 7:30.

Bring some snacks for that one, but finally, it’s almost time to toss it up and play ball!.
