The $8.5 million renovation project at the Cumberland County Hospital is now fully completed. The 18-month project, which began in October 2012, was officially unveiled to the public on Wednesday, November 27 when the hospital hosted an open house featuring tours of the newly completed project.
Abel Construction Company of Louisville was the contractor for the project.
The renovation added 20,000 square feet of new hospital space including 25 brand new patient rooms, completely new kitchen and dining area and a state-of-the-art physical therapy department. The older part of the hospital, including the old patient rooms, has been completely renovated into new offices for medical records, administration and the business office.
For years, several departments have been housed in other buildings, and this renovation makes it possible for everything to be under one roof, enabling all departments to run smoother, which will make tasks more convenient for staff and patients as well.
“We’re excited because it gives quality health care to the community of Cumberland County. We can now serve the community for many years to come,” said Hospital Administrator Rick Neikirk.
Neikirk and the hospital staff are very excited about the new renovation and welcome the community to come take advantage of all the services Cumberland County Hospital has to offer.
