The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs has had a busy holiday season this year including a tournament at South Oldham and the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic, which started Thursday night, December 26. The Lady Dawgs picked up one win last week, but lost its final two games of the tournament, to finish at 1-3 for the first part of the holiday season.
Clinton County has a record of 3-5 on the year.

Clinton County’s final game of the South Oldham Tournament was against Butler.
At the end of the first quarter, it was clear Butler was in control of the contest, leading 12-3.
At the half, Clinton County had only scored four points in the second quarter to trail 25-7.
Butler finished the third quarter with a 20 point lead, 39-19 and won the game with a final of 48-28.

Clinton County’s second game in the South Oldham Classic came against Pleasure Ridge Park.
Clinton County lost the contest, 63-51, but led PRP after one quarter, 14-13.
At the half, Clinton County found itself tied at 26 and still very much alive in the game.
After the third quarter had concluded, the Lady Dawgs were down by only one point, 37-36.
The final quarter saw Ansley Stalcup score 10 of her 23 points in the period, but PRP’s 28 fourth quarter points shattered any hopes for the Lady Dawgs to pull out the victory. Clinton County lost the game, 63-51.

The Lady Dawgs won its first game of the South Oldham tournament against Butler County, 62-44.
For the first quarter, Clinton County led 18-11. At the half, Clinton County continued to maintain its lead, scoring 10 points to Butler County’s 10 second quarter points, 28-21.
During the third quarter, Clinton County outscored Butler County 16-12 for a 45-32 lead. The Lady Dawgs stayed strong from the foul line in the fourth quarter hitting 10 of 14 as Butler County was zero for five from the line.
Clinton County won the game for its third win of the season, 62-44.

Before Clinton County’s first holiday tournament, the Lady Dawgs traveled to Cumberland County on Tuesday, December 17, for the second of six regular season district games.
Clinton County was defiantly not playing to its potential and struggled to score during the contest.
In the first quarter, the scoring was back and fourth. Both teams were tied three times and the lead changed hands as many times.
With the Lady Dawgs down by three, 10-7, Alex Beard hit a three pointer to tie the score and Stalcup hit a field goal to take a two point lead. Macy Campbell hit one of two from the foul line to extend the Lady Dawgs’ lead to three points.
Cumberland County then put together a 6-0 run to finish the quarter with a three point lead, 16-13.
During the second quarter, Cumberland County continued to dominate on offense and Clinton County struggled to put the ball in the basket.
The Lady Panthers reached a 12 point lead with 1:22 on the clock, 30-18, but three free throws later and the Lady Dawgs cut the lead to nine at the half, 30-21.
During the third quarter, Clinton County’s offense started to pick up.
It took the entire quarter for Clinton County to get back into the game. As the final seconds of the quarter ticked away, Stalcup hit a three pointer at the buzzer to get the Lady Dawgs to within two points, 43-41.
Clinton County outscored the Lady Panthers 20-13 in the third quarter in order to get back into the game.
At the start of the final quarter, Clinton County tied the score at 43, but then the Lady Dawgs’ offense struggled while Cumberland County’s picked up.
At the 2:57 mark, after scoring five points so far in the quarter, Clinton County again cut the lead to two points after being down by four twice.
With 2:28 remaining in the game, Cumberland County started an 8-0 run, 56-46, and ultimately sealed the deal for a Clinton County loss.
Kayla Dicken scored a three point play with 43 seconds remaining, but Cumberland County hit four free throws in the final 30 seconds to grab the win, 60-49.

Clinton County was back in action Thursday night at home, hosting the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic. The Lady Dawgs’ first game was against McCreary Central. Those games and highlights will be in next week’s edition of the Clinton County News.
