Tanner S. Meadors spent his fourth birthday where no child ever wants to go–the hospital–after a one-vehicle accident on Tuesday, December 10.
Tanner, according to family members on social media, remained in serious condition after he had several surgeries, including one to help repair an area where his spine apparently separated causing permanent paralysis from the waist down.
Tanner was flown from the scene via helicopter to Vanderbilt after first responders and Monroe County Ambulance personnel assessed him at the scene and recognized the seriousness of his injuries.
Tanner’s mother, Ashley S. Hagglund, 26, and father, Robert W. Key, 32, both of 617 Emberton St., Tompkinsville, were also both injured when Ashley was traveling north on Alexander School Road in a 1999 Toyota Carolla and lost control on an icy patch on the roadway.
Deputy Sheriff Larry D. Martin, who investigated the accident, noted that the car then struck a tree head-on.
Hagglund was able to free herself and exit the vehicle. However, a passenger in the front of the vehicle had to be freed by mechanical means by Gamaliel Volunteer Fire Department.
Other than Tanner’s family, two other adults were injured in the accident including Michelle B. Harlow, 38, of 617 Emberton Street and Jeremy W. Meadors, 30, of Scottsville, of whom were all treated at the scene by personnel from the Monroe County Ambulance Service prior to transport via ambulance to the Monroe County Medical Center for further treatment and evaluation.
