Dawgs continue losing streak, host Russell Friday

The Clinton County Bulldogs have lost five straight games this holiday season, including two during its own Twin Lakes Holiday Classic tournament as reported last week.

The Bulldogs traveled to Lexington, Kentucky after Christmas to participate in the Republic Bank Classic at Lexington Catholic High School.

The Dawgs lost three games, Bardstown 60-51, Harrison County 54-49, and Augusta 75-64.

During the game on Sunday, December 29, 2013, Clinton County took on Augusta in its final game of the holiday season.

The Dawgs kept the game close in the first quarter with all scores tied at 15. Augusta outscored the Dawgs by one point in the second quarter to trail by one point at halftime, 34-33.

The Dawgs were still in the game at the end of the third quarter, but trailed by only four points, 54-50.

During the fourth quarter, however, Clinton County only scored 14 points compared to Augusta’s 21 points for the 75-64 loss.

With that loss, Clinton County moved to 9-5 on the year and it’s fifth consecutive loss.

The Dawgs hit 25 of 55 from the floor for 45.5 percent, two of 11 from the three point line for 18.2 percent and 12 of 15 from the free throw line for 80 percent.

During the second game of the Republic Bank Classic, Clinton County faced Harrison County.

Clinton County took a six point lead at the end of the first period, 18-12 and commanded the halftime lead, 28-24.

Harrison County outscored the Dawgs by one point in the third quarter to cut the lead to three points, 39-36, but during the fourth quarter, Harrision outscored Clinton County 18-10 to grab the five point decision, 54-49.

The Dawgs shot 40 percent from the floor, including eight of 19 from the three point line.

From the foul line, Clinton County hit only one of three for 33.3 percent.

Clinton County’s first game of the Republic Bank Classic put the Dawgs up against Bardstown.

The Dawgs outscored the Tigers 14-9 in the first quarter, but fell apart in the second quarter and was outscored 17-10 to trail 26-24 at halftime.

Clinton County came back out at halftime and took a one point lead by the end of the third quarter, 40-39, but again fell apart in the fourth quarter and was outscored, 21-11 for the 60-51 loss.

For the game, Clinton County hit 19 of 42 from the floor for 45.2 percent, including only two of nine from the three point line.

The Dawgs hit 11 of 16 from the free throw line for 68.8 percent.

Clinton County will be back in action Friday at The Castle as the Dawgs host 16th District rival Russell County.

The game will tip off following the girls’ game, which begins at 6 p.m.

The Dawgs will also host Whitley County on Monday, January 6, 2014, at 7 p.m.
