William Russell Miller, 91, a native of Albany, died December 26, 2013 at his home in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

He was born in Albany on April 6, 1922, to the late Flossie O’Della and John A. “Dude” Miller.

A graduate of Dunbar High School in Somerset, he also graduated from Tennessee State University before moving to Ohio where he was employed with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio.

Miller climbed the corporate ladder with Goodyear, eventually becoming the first African American Vice-President of a major rubber company, and he remained with that first until his retirement in 1987.

Miller returned frequently to Clinton County during his life to visit with family and friends, and often worked with local governemnt officials in recruiting and investigating industrial prospects to the area.

He is survived by his wife, Edith, a son Richard, and daughters Anita, Rosanne and Shana.

Two sisters, Imogene Moffett and Sally Mae (Robert) McDougal also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, at 7:30 a.m. Central time, at the Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio.
