Clinton County FCS Extension and Homemakers Association ‘Go Red for Women’ events

Let’s Paint Clinton County Red on Friday, February 7th!

Did you know that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, killing more than all forms of cancer combined? Many of these deaths can be prevented, but most women don’t notice the symptoms until it’s too late. That’s why it’s been called the silent killer. Clinton County FCS Extension and Homemakers want to paint Clinton County Red on Friday, February 7th.

There’s a variety of ways for you to get involved in Go Red for Women. On February 7th, the Homemakers will sponsor its Annual Cultural Arts Competition Contest. Entries will be accepted from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the Albany First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. There will be an Open Division for anyone who is not a member of Homemakers.

However, only Homemaker entries are eligible to advance to area and state competitions. Items can be entered in 28 categories including jewelry making, painting, quilting, scrapbooking, apparel, art, needlepoint, and much more. A complete list of rules as well as categories and subcategories can be found online at http://clinton.ca.uky.edu/ or contact the Extension Office at 387-5404 for more information.

You may also get involved in Go Red for Women by attending the Go Red for Women Luncheon on February 7th from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Albany First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The luncheon registration fee is $8.00 and includes a “Passion for Go Red” presentation, free blood pressure checks, discussion of upcoming Homemakers and Extension Events, Cultural Arts Show, and a meal prepared by Extension Homemakers (soup, sandwiches, salad, dessert, and drink). Registration for the Go Red for Women Luncheon is due to the Extension Office (2601 North Hwy 127) by February 4th.

There are three ways for businesses and agencies to participate in Go Red for Women. First, encourage all your employees to Wear Red to fight heart disease. Register with the Extension Office by February 4th and Homemakers will take a photo of your staff “going red” at your location on February 7th.

Secondly, businesses can participate in our Window/Door Decorating Contest by painting their business red to show support for the fight against heart disease. Plaques and prizes for winning businesses (1st Place $25; 2nd Place $15; 3rd Place $10).

To participate in the Window/Door Decorating Contest, please register with the Extension Office by February 4th. Thirdly, businesses can encourage and/or pay registration for employees to attend the Go Red for Women Luncheon 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Albany First Baptist Church. Luncheon Registration Fee is $8.00 (checks payable to the Clinton County Homemakers) and is due by February 4th.

If you are not able to participate in any of the Go Red for Women events listed above, you can still help by wearing red on Friday, February 7th to bring awareness to heart disease.

Let’s Paint Clinton County Red on February 7th by having all men, women, and kids wear red to show support and bring awareness to the impact of heart disease.
