The deadline to file as a candidate in the May 2014 primary election is now passed, and with one full day remaining (Tuesday, January 28) which was too late for press deadline, a total of 44 local residents had filed for all of the various offices that will appear on the Clinton County ballot this spring.

A few more candidates were expected to have filed on Tuesday and a complete listing of candidates, including anyone who may have filed on the final day, will be published next week.

Also, County Clerk Shelia Booher reminds all candidates that drawing for ballot positions in all the local races will be held in the County Clerk’s office this Thursday afternoon, January 30 at 2 p.m.

Since last report, four additional candidates had filed for local office through Monday, January 27, bringing the total number to 44 local candidates and over 60 total that will appear on the Clinton County ballot in May.

The latest candidates who filed last week include Dan Thomas, a Democrat for County Clerk; Richard Armstrong, Republican for County Judge/Executive; David Harris, Republican for District Six Magistrate; and Steve Talbott, incumbent Republican Coroner.

Of the total number of local candidates, some 39 are Republicans and five are Democrats.

Also, the county offices most sought after are that of county judge/executive, where a total of six candidates-three Republicans and three Democrats–are running, and jailer, where a total of five candidates, all Republicans, are seeking to succeed current long-time jailer Gene Ferrill, who is not seeking re-election.

There are also several state, federal and judicial races that will appear on ballots across Kentucky, including Clinton County, in May, with the most sought-after seat being that of U.S. Senate from Kentucky, where seven candidates, including incumbent GOP House Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, are running.

Several current seats that are up for election this spring, including some local races, may have only one candidate, meaning no opposition for an opposing party in the November general election.

A final listing of the statewide, federal and judicial races will also be published in next week’s Clinton County News, along with the order in which local candidates names will appear on the ballot.
