A man walked into Highway 61 Country Mart in Breeding on Monday, January 13 around 3:14 p.m. and robbed the country store by gunpoint.

Adair County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Rainwater said the man walked around the store avoiding video cameras before entering the front door and pulling a gun.

The man walked to the counter, pulled the gun and demanded the store employee empty the register and put the money in a bag.

“I thought it was somebody pulling a prank or something,” said Phyllis Greenough, a longtime employee at the favorite shop for many people.

The thief cocked the gun while having it pointed at her and repeated his demand.

“This is not a joke, put the money in the bag,” Greenough said he told her.

Greenough gave him the money and he left the store, shooting the gun one time after exiting.

Deputy Rainwater said the thief was one of two people, with the second person staying outside on an ATV.

They left the store and exited the Breeding Loop. Officers were searching for a white male, 5’9” to 6’, he was wearing a black Under Armour hoodie, black glasses, a mask and blue jeans.

The two left on a black and blue ATV with a rack.

Two customers were inside the store and another employee was working outside in the parking lot when the robbery occurred.

The store is located in Adair County, very near the Cumberland and Metcalfe County lines, and is owned by Brooks Davis of Burkesville.

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office investigated and was assisted by the Kentucky State Police.

Anyone with any information that can help in the investigation is encouraged to call the Adair County Sheriff’s Department at 270-384-2776 or 911.
