Downtown Saturday events
The Heart of Albany Summer Celebration will begin Saturday, April 16. Each Saturday of the month from now until the October Foothills Festival, we will be coordinating around the downtown area for the Clinton County residents to enjoy and participate in. Everyone is welcome and the more the merrier!
* First Saturday each month, May 7 through October 1, Old Fashioned Jockey trade days and Flea Market sponsored by Eli’s on the Square in the Foothills parking lot, with spaces costing $5 for a parking space sized area. You will be able to sell or trade about anything you own from critters to antiques, crafts to quilts, garage sale items to household appliances, plants to produce and relatives to kids. Set up is a first come basis starting at 7 a.m. and the hours will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 127 Yard Sale Days and Roller Coaster Day will have a little different set-up. Each space will be $10 and we are asking that ‘no commercial’ vendors to be in our area. It will be for Clinton County residents first and any remaining reservations to back-up requests. The reservations for these weekends will be through Eli Mackewich at 387-4130. All the proceeds from the event will be used to benefit the residents of Clinton County, so if you have suggestions let me know!
* Second Saturday each month, starting May 14 will be family oriented gospel stage singing in the Foothills parking lot. Bring your picnic basket, lawn chairs, blankets, etc. and enjoy a fun afternoon of fellowship and great local talent. If you know of anyone wanting to perform, please give David McCarty a call at 387-5102. If you have a fundraising event for your church and would like to set up during a show, please let us know. This day will be for Christian related music and fundraising.
* Third Saturday each month starting April 16 will be the antique, muscle and just plain cool car cruise-in around the courthouse. The guys started this last fall and what a great day they gave us! Come on out and enjoy looking at some mighty fine cars. Even better yet, drive your own “primo wheels” down and show off! If you have questions about the cruise-in, Larry Ferguson is one of the local contacts for the group.
* Fourth Saturday, starting April 23, is Trail Blazing in Albany. Anyone that has a horse, donkey, cart, buggy or wagon, come on down and enjoy a ride through the back streets of Albany. We will be meeting beside Lisa Beard’s office and Dollar General at 10:30 a.m. I encourage everyone to bring your kids, camera, grandma and coonhound to enjoy the day. If you have tack and other horse related items to sell, bring them along. You don’t have to be fancy, just have a great time. Hopefully we can renew the tradition of Saturday fellowship.
* Fifth Saturday, Day of Rest!
Please support and participate in these activities. They are cheap, close to home, great for the family, and just good clean fun! What a great way to spend a summer day! 25-2
