Dawgs pick up two wins

The Bulldogs picked up two wins this week to improve its record to 16-6 on the year.

The first win came Friday night at Allen County/Scottsville, 60-55 and the second win came Saturday night, February 1, against Whitley County, 62-47.

The Dawgs started the game off slow and struggled on offense for the better part of the first half and parts of the second half.

In the first quarter, Clinton County remained even with the Colonels until the 4:42 mark. At that point, the Dawgs put together an 8-0 run to lead 15-8 with 2:45 on the clock.

Clinton County only scored two points in the final two minutes of the period while Whitley County added three to its side of the board for a 17-11 score after one quarter.

During the second quarter, Clinton County’s Clay Choate scored to put the Dawgs up by eight, 19-11, but Whitley County clawed its way back in the game and cut the lead to two points with 2:59 remaining in the half, 19-17.

Keifer Dalton scored a three point play with 2:35 remaining, but back-to-back baskets by Whitley County cut the lead to one point with 35 seconds on the clock, 22-21.

Colby Langford hit two free throws at the end of the period to send the Dawgs into the locker room at halftime with a two point lead, 23-21.

During the third quarter Clinton County started to pull away, but it did take some time for the Dawgs to get its groove. The Dawgs outscored Whitley County 16-9 in the third to lead the game by nine points by the end of the quarter, 39-30.

As the final quarter got underway, Langford hit a basket in the opening 30 seconds to push the Dawgs’ lead to 11 points, 41-30. Whitley County wouldn’t get any closer than eight points during the final quarter as Clinton County finished the game with a 15 point victory, 62-47.

The Dawgs traveled to Allen County Friday night to take on Allen County/Scottsville in the second game of a girls’/boys’ double header.

The Dawgs started off again on the slow side, but rallied at the end of the period as Lance Claywell hit his second three pointer of the game as time expired to end the quarter, 16-12.

Clinton County found itself tied at halftime, 28-28, with Claywell leading all scorers with 11 points.

During the third quarter, Allen County kept the game close, but the Dawgs outscored the Patriots 14-10 for a 42-38 lead.

During the final quarter, Clinton County remained in control of the game by hitting eight of 10 free throws. Clinton County went on to win by five points, outscoring the Patriots 18-17 in the final quarter, 60-55.

Clinton County was back in action Tuesday, too late for press deadline, against Wayne County. The Cardinals were 21-0 before Tuesday’s game. The Dawgs will also host Caverna Thursday, February 6, at The Castle. Tip off is scheduled around 7 p.m.
