Another stretch of weather related changes

So, the winter of 2014 continues to stick around with a vengeance and play havoc with our basketball plans.

Clinton County did get in a couple of games last Tuesday night, traveling to neighboring Wayne County where the Lady Dawgs and Bulldogs fell to the Cards.

Of course the boys’ game was being watched by fans from across the state, as the Cardinals went into the contest with a then still undefeated record, eventually keeping their run intact – at least for then, picking up a 15 point, 68-53 win over the Bulldogs in a contest that saw Clinton County hold the Cardinals to only 68 points – one of the lowest scoring marks for them this season.

The Cardinals went on to pick up the first loss of the year less than a week later, when they fell to Montgomery County in the Joe B. Hall Prep Classic. Wayne County gets the nod at being the last team in Kentucky to have an undefeated run and they take a 24-1 record into the last two weeks of regular season play.

Back to the Big Blue.

Our Dawgs bounced back with a win over the Colonels of Caverna, coached by former Lady Bulldog head coach Blake Button and this week we head into the final three games of the season – Monroe on Friday, South Laurel on Saturday and over at Barren County next Thursday night.

The Lady Dawgs are also seeing the season quickly come to a close, with two games remaining also, the Monroe County game on Friday and Barren County next Thursday.

Of course, as has been the case throughout this entire season, those games are dependent on a little cooperation from Mother Nature.

Fans should also take note – Friday night’s double header action against Monroe County is also Senior Night -the night we honor our seniors during an always moving ceremony between games.

From there, everything moves into post-season gear and Clinton County is the host this year for our first round of tournament time – the 16th District Tournament which runs February 24-28.

Hard to believe it’s nearly over.

Radio Auction coming up

Of course in between the end of regular season play, and the start of the 16th District Tournament, will be the annual Clinton County Basketball Boosters Club / WANY Radio Auction.

This year’s big event is set for Friday, February 21, again based out of the cafeteria at Clinton County High School.

Plans are for the event to get underway at 5:00 p.m. and run until about 10:00.

More details will be included in next week’s Clinton County News, but let this serve as a notice to go ahead and jot it down on your calendar.
