Lady Dawgs defeated by neighboring Wayne County, 54-32

The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs played only one game last week as the Lady Dawgs traveled to neighboring Wayne County to take on the Lady Cardinals.

Clinton County lost the game, 54-32, to move its record to 10-13 on the year.

The Lady Dawgs started out on the slow side as the Lady Cardinals quickly dropped in two baskets for a 4-0 lead. Ansley Stalcup hit a field goal at the 5:40 mark, but Wayne County put together a 7-0 run to lead, 11-2 with 3:15 remaining in the period.

Clinton County cut the lead to five points on a basket by Macy Campbell and one by Stalcup with 50 seconds on the clock, 11-6, but Wayne County hit a field goal to close out the quarter, 13-6.

During the second quarter, Wayne County’s full court pressure continued to give Clinton County problems getting the ball up the floor.

After the Lady Dawgs added four points to the scoreboard, Wayne County quickly grabbed a 12 point lead, 22-10.

Shyanne McWhorter hit four free throws on two separate possessions to cut the lead to eight, 22-14.

Wayne County added two more baskets to the scoreboard before halftime with Clinton County adding only one basket for a 10 point deficit, 26-16.

During the third quarter, Clinton County let the game get out of control. The Lady Bulldogs only added six points to the board, while Wayne County added 10 for a 39-26 lead.

During the final quarter, Clinton County put up 10 points while Wayne County added 15 for a 54-32 final and the Lady Dawgs’ 13th loss of the season.

Clinton County will be at home Friday for it’s final home game of the season. The Lady Dawgs will host Monroe County at 6 p.m.
