Engaging our youth to
become positive role models
By April Speck, Coordinator,
Clinton County Healthy Hometown Coalition
Our mission is simple: to engage a broad spectrum of community partners to promote the physical and behavioral health and well-being of children ages five through 18 as they grow into adults, by supporting local systems, environments, and policies that reduce risks for chronic diseases and help support healthy behaviors for a lifetime.
Healthy Hometown has engaged CCHS students to become positive role models for ECC, AES, and CCMS students while earning volunteer hours for college.
ECC Take 10!
Every Tuesday morning CCHS students go to ECC during 2nd period intervention to facilitate Take 10, a physical activity while learning basic math and spelling concepts. ECC students enjoy having high school students come over. We still need several more high school students. If your child is interested please contact April Speck at 606-387-3495 or 387-2051. Below are a couple of pictures of high school students facilitating Take 10!
AES Walking Buddies:
We are still in need of high school students to go to AES at least once a week to walk with elementary students prior to 1st period. We need students who are looking to earn volunteer hours for college and students who want to be a positive role model for an elementary student. The picture below shows two high school students walking at AES.
CCMS Athletic Training Program
Carley Miller, CCHS student, has had a passion to start an athletic training program at CCMS for years. Healthy Hometown decided to help Carley with her dream. The amount of snow days we have had this winter has pushed our goal back, but we will be starting this program very soon. When Carley introduced this program, 29 8th grade students expressed interest and wanted to be a part of this. The picture below is Carley introducing the program.
