Lady Dawgs had the effort, but fell short in regions

The Lady Dawgs represented Clinton County well Thursday night as the team traveled to Allen County/Scottsville to play in the first round of the 4th Region Tournament.

Clinton County’s opening game against Franklin-Simpson saw the Lady Dawgs trail by one at the half, but eventually losing the contest, 49-32. The Lady Dawgs finished its season with a 15-15 record.

Clinton County started the game on fire and in control. Alex Beard hit back-to-back three pointers in the first quarter for an 8-2 lead with 6:10 on the clock.

The Lady Wildcats started chipping away at the lead by using a full court press against the Lady Dawgs.

Clinton County went three minutes without scoring and allowed Franklin-Simpson to get back in the ball game. Franklin-Simpson tied the game at eight at the 3:02 mark, but a three point play by Stalcup put the Lady Dawgs up by three, 11-8, with 2:26 remaining in the first quarter.

The Lady Dawgs finished the quarter scoring four more points and leading the Lady Wildcats after the first quarter, 15-12.

During the second quarter, Clinton County dug in and continued to make the game exciting for the fans.

Franklin Simpson tied the score at 15, but a basket by Stalcup put the Lady Dawgs up by two at the 4:29 mark, 17-15.

It took more than half of the second quarter before either team really started scoring. Before the halfway point in the second quarter, Franklin Simpson had only scored three points to Clinton County’s two.

The Lady Wildcats tied the game at the 3:40 mark, but a layup by Joelie Hicks put the Lady Dawgs back up by two points, 19-17.

Franklin Simpson then put together a five point run to go up by three with 46 seconds remaining until halftime.

As the seconds ticked away, Clinton County’s Cori Langford banked a jump shot at the buzzer to put the Lady Dawgs to within one point at the half, 22-21.

Clinton County started struggling in the third quarter. Shots normally made by the Lady Dawgs weren’t falling, allowing Franklin-Simpson to put together a 10-2 run and take a 32-23 lead midway through the quarter.

The Lady Dawgs finished the quarter scoring only five points to Franklin-Simpson’s 12 for a 34-26 lead over the Lady Dawgs.

The final quarter saw much of the same as the third quarter for Clinton County.

Franklin-Simpson continued to give Clinton County trouble with the full court press and contained the Lady Dawgs to only six fourth quarter points.

The Lady Wildcats put up 15 in the final period to take the win, 49-32, and advance to the semi-finals of the 4th Region Tournament against Bowling Green.
