Dawgs fall in opening round of 4th Region

The Clinton County Bulldogs traveled to Glasgow Saturday night to take on Warren Central in the opening round of the 4th Region Tournament held at Barren County High School.

The Bulldogs lost the game, 61-45, but the final score wasn’t an indication of how close the game actually was.

Warren Central opened the game with back-to-back baskets. Head Coach Todd Messer called a timeout at the 6:59 mark and Clinton County came back out with a 7-2 run to take a one point lead, 7-6.

With 4:42 on the clock, Warren Central put together a run to finish the quarter on a 12-2 run to lead the Dawgs, 18-9 at the end of one.

Warren Central continued its run in the second quarter to lead, 20-9, but two free throws by Keifer Dalton put the Dawgs back to within nine points, 20-11.

For the next several minutes both teams traded baskets with Warren Central keeping a seven point lead for the majority of the period.

By halftime, Clinton County trailed, 36-28. During the third quarter, Clinton County started clawing its way back into the game. The Bulldogs outscored Warren Central 10-7 in the period to trail by five at the start of the fourth quarter, 43-38.

Warren Central opened the quarter with a field goal and continued to control the boards, getting two and in some cases, three chances to score off offensive rebounds.

At around the five minute mark, Warren Central decided to run some of the clock down on Clinton County.

Most of the remainder of the period, for both teams, was played at the foul line.

Warren Central, not known for its free throw shooting finesse, hit 13 of 14 down the stretch in order to secure the win, 61-45, and advance to the semi-finals against Monroe County.

Warren Central completely controlled the board by grabbing 38 to Clinton County’s 18. The Dawgs hit 13 of 38 from the floor for 34 percent, including only one of seven from the three point line for 14 percent. From the foul line, Clinton County hit 18 of 28 for 64 percent while Warren Central hit 16 of 20 for 75 percent.

The Dawgs finished its season with a 22-8 record.
