Clinton County Board of Education held a brief regular meeting Monday night, March 10 with four of five members present.
The board first recognized the Clinton County Middle School and elementary academic teams, which recently won the district competition. CCMS won 2nd in Quick Recall. Elementary won 2nd in Quick Recall and 2nd in FPS.
Students recognized included: (Middle School)–Gabby Beaty; Conlan Beck; Jessica Criswell; Annie Caroline Cross; Mary Willen Cross; Dalton Gregory; Jackson Harlan; Paige Hicks; Bobbianne Key; Quade Martin; Jaden Mullins; Alexander Neal; Garrett Page; Rachel Sawyers; Noah Stockton; Carly Upchurch; Camrick Wright; Vivian Zheng. (Elementary students)–Sydnee Albertson; Jake Boils; Olivia Brummett; Hailey Cole; Kendra Cross; Alena Garner; David Guffey; Devin Huckaby; Haleigh Irwin; Autumn McCutchen; Christin Shelton and Abbi Young.
Individual award winners were: (Middle School)–Jackson Harlan (5th in Math); Noah Stockton (2nd in Social Studies and 1st in Science); Conlan Beck ( 3rd in Social Studies and 1st in Arts & Humanities); Garrett Page (5th in Social Studies); Mary Willen Cross (2nd in Arts & Humanities); Gabby Beaty (5th in Arts & Humanities).
Elementary: Autumn McCutchen (2nd in Social Studies); David Guffey (1st in Science); Jake Boils (2nd in Science); Abbie Young (5th in Composition); Olivia Brummett (3rd in Language Arts); Sydnee Albertson (3rd in Composition); Bailey Cole (4th in Arts & Humanities.)
The board also recognized Lynn Starnes, who retired from teaching this school year.
Two leave of absences were approved: family medical leave to Kimberly Patton through March 12; family medical to Jeff Lee through March 9. They then voted to approve between meeting disbursement and pay claims and bills.
Under personnel report, the following was announced: Substitute teachers–Chasity Starns, district wide; Ashley Stewart, ECC/AES; Jeff Fryman, district wide; classified hired–Mike Matthews, CCMS head baseball coach; Gary Wallace, CCMS assistant baseball coach; Amy Gibson, Assistant cheer coach; Russell Baker, CCHS assistant baseball coach. Certified resignation, Melissa Tallent, assistant cheer coach at CCHS; classified resignation, Tammy Irwin, nurse, district-wide.
The board then approved an agreement with Red Cross to allow Clinton County Schools certified instructors to teach Red Cross training courses and approved a school cheerleader fundraiser for April 21-25 with proceeds to benefit Relay For Life.
After hearing the monthly attendance report, the board heard presentations on school data from Early Childhood Principal Tina Langford and AES Principal Tim Armstrong prior to adjourning.
The school calendar was not addressed or discussed at Monday night’s meeting, but a revised version will be adopted in the weeks ahead to reflect some 14 days missed this year due to weather.
The next regular meeting of the school board is scheduled for April 14 at 5 p.m.
