At 8:37 Sunday night, March 30, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department responded to 155 Martha Stockton Road after a shooting had been reported.

Sheriff Rick Riddle said Deputy Josh Asberry was first on the scene. When Asberry arrived, he discovered that Danny Kennedy had been shot one time in the abdomen.

Shortly afterward, EMS arrived on scene and Kennedy was transported to Clinton County Hospital and then transferred to the UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY. via helicopter.

“He had a serious injury to the abdomen and the last I heard he was in surgery but he was stable,” Riddle told the Clinton County News Monday.

After a couple of hours, the search for the suspect ended without incident and Jonathan Blazing, of Albany, was arrested and charged with assault in the first degree. Blazing was lodged in the Clinton County Jail.

Sheriff Riddle said they found the suspected weapon used in the shooting, a .357 Magnum, that had appeared to have been fired one time.

S.O.R.T (Special Operations Response Team) was dispatched to Hopkins Street, where the accused suspect Blazing lived, according to Riddle.

“We are trying to handle everything ourselves,” Riddle said. “We have our special response team and that’s what we do our training for. It comes in handy in situations like this, that way we don’t have to wait three or four hours or maybe even an hour down the road for the KSP to arrive with their team.”

Riddle said the search for Blazing was over within a couple of hours and he added “without anything bad happening.”

“Everything worked out for the best,” Riddle said. “There were no more individuals hurt or anything like that.”

It was unclear, according to Riddle, what the altercation was about, but he said the investigation is ongoing.

S.O.R.T and the Sheriff’s Department was also assisted by the Albany Police Department.
