, 91, of Charleston, S.C., died Monday, April 7, 2014, at his home, following a brief illness.

He was born March 8, 1923, in Albany, the son of Vera Buck Armstrong Cole and Roscoe Armstrong.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his stepfather, Willie Long Cole.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol A. Howe (Jimmy); his son, James D. Armstrong (Julie); his five grandchildren, William T. Howe, Edward M. Howe, J. Bryant Armstrong, P. Cole Armstrong and Imogene E. Armstrong, all of Charleston; and his stepsister, Doris Howard and her family of Elizabethtown.

His funeral will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
