Relay for Life Pictorial Tribute

Relay for Life invites the community to participate in its Pictorial Tribute. You may pay to have a picture on file displayed in the Pictorial Tribute or submit a new picture. New pictures must be dropped off at Albany Elementary School before Wednesday, April 23 to be scanned. Cost is $5 per picture. For more information contact Kathleen Gregory at 306-3097.

Relay for Life Luminaries

Luminaries may be purchased before the event or the night of the Relay for Life. Luminaries may be purchased in honor or memory of someone. Luminaries may be dropped off at Albany Elementary through Friday, April 25.

Land and Water

Conservation meeting

Under the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965 (Public Law 88-578), citizens are afforded the opportunity to express their views concerning the recreational needs of their community. To provide a forum for discussion, an open meeting is being held on Thursday, April 24 at 5 p.m. at Mountain View Park in Albany, sponsored by the Clinton County Fiscal Court and Park Board. The specific purpose of this meeting is to discuss the need to improve the playground area at Mountain View Park and to review the proposal being submitted to the Department of Local Government under the Land and Water Conservation Fund program. Anyone with a significant or opposing view is invited to voice that opinion at this meeting or in writing to: Land and Water Conservation Fund Program; Governor’s Office, Department for Local Government, 1024 Capital Center Drive, Suite 340, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601 within two (2) weeks of the date of the meeting.

Cheerleaders fundraiser

The Clinton County Elite Cheerleaders will have a fundraiser hosted by Hog Wild BBQ Friday, April 18 at the Foothills parking lot, selling shoulder, pulled pork and chicken plates. Come support your local cheerleaders.

Citizens of Clinton County, don’t forget the upcoming Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society. This year’s fun gets underway at 6:00 p.m. and continues until 12:00 midnight, Friday, April 25, at the Clinton County High School. Little League opening day

Clinton County Little League Opening day will be held Saturday, April 19 (weather permitting) starting with the annual parade. Parade line-up will be at 8 a.m. at the middle school and will begin at 9 a.m. Opening day ceremonies will begin approximately 10 a.m. with games to begin immediately after the ceremony. All teams will be scheduled to play. Everyone is invited to join us for a day full of food, fun, and baseball!!

Diabetes classes offered

The Clinton County Health Department is offering free support group diabetes classes each Tuesday during the month of May called Learning to Control Diabetes-Step by Step! The classes are free but pre-registration is required by calling 387-5711, ext. 1166.

Elder Abuse meeting scheduled

The regional meeting of the Lake Cumberland Area Development District Elder Abuse Council will be on Thursday, April 24 at 9 a.m. at the Lake Cumberland ADD District Conference room in Russell Springs. All public officials, law enforcement officials, and concerned citizens against elder abuse are encouraged to attend and become involved. Family Fun Run and 5K Run

Clinton County Healthy Hometown Coalition will sponsor a Family Fun Run and 5K Run For the Roses on Saturday, May 3 starting at Mountain View Park. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a $15 fee. The runs begin at 9 a.m. T-shirts will be awarded to each participant and kids run “free.” To pre-register or for more information about either the family or 5K runs, contact Amanda Cross, Regina Parrigin, Barb McWhorter, Gina Poore or call April Speck, Healthy Hometown Coordinator, at 606-387-2051.

Clinton Alumni Band organizing

We are moving forward with organizing an Alumni Band for Clinton County. We have set up a Facebook page, but just in case you do not have one, we wanted to give everyone a chance at becoming part of this wonderful group. This group will be playing a few events throughout the county as well as being a strong organization to help our local high school band. Please give this number a call, 606-387-4448 and let Mark know when you were in band and what you played. We will keep in touch with you after that. Color Run and Fitness Walk

On Saturday, April 19, Project Graduation will sponsor a Color Run at Mt. View Park as part of Little League Opening Day. A 2-mile fitness walk/run starts at 2 p.m. with a $12 entry fee. At 2:30 p.m. there will be a half-mile kids run/dash with a $6 entry fee, with a huge color throw at the conclusion. For more information contact Lisa Beard at 387-6099 or 306-3693.

Extension Office to host Targeted Bull

Selection educational session

There will be an educational session on Targeted Bull Selection, Friday, April, 18th from 9 am-10am CST at the Clinton County Extension Office. Dr. Darrh Bullock, UK Extension Beef Specialist, will present via Microsoft Lync.

The presentation will be beneficial to anyone interested in learning how to improve the genetics of their herd through proper bull selection, but will be specifically geared toward understanding EPD requirements for the cattle genetics portion of the upcoming CAIP program.

This meeting will serve as an educational component of the CAIP cost share program. Please call the Clinton Co. Extension Office at 606-387-5404 if you are planning to attend.

Burkesville Academy of Fine Arts is now accepting registrations for 2014 Fine Arts Summer Camps. Senior Citizens and Veteran Tours

Upcoming tours for senior citizens and veterans will be June 9-13 to Charleston, South Carolina. Visits will include the Magnolia Plantation and Garden.
