Opening day is Saturday for youth baseball league

“Play ball”

Those two words will be one of the central themes heard for the next several weeks at Mountain View Park starting this Saturday, April 19. That is the opening day of the Clinton County Little League season. As a reminder to readers, there will be activities, especially for kids, going on all day at the park.

The Little League Board of Directors and first year President John Mason have been working hard the past few months gearing up for the 2014 season, including making plans for opening day events.

The festivities will begin with the annual parade of teams that will begin around 9 a.m. this Saturday morning, then it’s back to the park for a full day of games most of the day and side related events, beginning around 10 a.m. beginning with the ceremonial “first pitch” to get the season underway.

Plans were being made to have inflatables for the smaller children to enjoy on Saturday and there will be concessions available throughout the day.

One event that will take place on Little League opening day will be a Color Run sponsored by Project Graduation. That will include a two-mile fitness walk/run at 2 p.m. with a $20 entry fee. Then at 2:30 p.m., there will be a half-mile kids run/dash with a $6 entry fee. The event will conclude with a huge color throw.

Also something new and sure to be fun this season will be wee ball for three-year old children.

Although opening day of the Little League season is catered toward the kids, it is also a day for everyone, including anyone who wants to show their support for the little league program and our local youth. If the extended weather forecast holds true, it will be a perfect spring baseball day…with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s.

Coverage of opening day ceremonies and more information about this year’s league will be published next week.
