A Clinton County man who was able to escape from the Wayne County Detention Center sometime Monday night, April 14 was apprehended by local police in Albany five days later.

Anthony Shaw, who had reportedly been in the Wayne County facility since last July on methamphetamine related charges, was arrested and returned to the detention center this past weekend.

According to a press release issued early last week by Wayne County Jailer Ray E. Upchurch, he was notified around 11:22 p.m. Eastern Time Monday night, April 14 that the inmate was missing from the facility. The release went on to indicate Shaw was in a minimum security area of the jail.

Jailer Upchurch then obtained information that the escapee, who is from Clinton County, may have fled to this area and notified local authorities.

According to Albany Assistant Police Chief Lyle Pierce, five days later, following an apparent tip in the case, Albany Police Officer Mark Bell located and arrested Shaw at Albany Manor Saturday evening, April 19.

Details surrounding how Shaw may have made his escape was not made public in the press release.

Shaw has since been returned to the Wayne County Detention Center and may face additional charges of escape in relation to the incident.
