An altercation between neighbors early Monday morning resulted in the shooting death of one man. Gavin Thompson, 38, died after being shot an undetermined number of times, according to Wayne County Coroner Forrest Hicks.
Hicks said Thompson was pronounced dead at approximately 4:55 a.m. Monday in the emergency room at the Wayne County Hospital. Thompson was transported to the hospital by Wayne County EMS following the shooting that occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on KY 1275.
Kentucky State Police Detective Billy Correll said that Thompson was shot by Ian T. Miller, 21, of Elmira, New York, during an altercation that took place at Thompson’s residence.
Hicks said that Thompson’s body was transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy to determine the nature of his injuries. He indicated that toxicology samples will ascertain if the use of alcohol or drugs played a part in the incident.
Hicks said the victim’s next of kin resides in West Virginia.
Correll said that no arrests had been made, but the investigation is continuing.
Correll was assisted at the scene by Trooper Adam Childress, Trooper Wendell Higginbotham, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the Monticello Police Department and Wayne County EMS.
