Tennis teams have a hard week

The Clinton County Racket Dawgs played several matches last week that saw several wins and several losses.

On Tuesday, April 12, 2011, the Racket Dawgs hosted Monticello. On the boys’ side of the net, it was Clinton County picking up 12 wins while only having one loss.

In singles play, it was Zach McFall, Clay Choate, Matthew Savage, Lamon Hubbs, Matthew Hunter, Jacob Bertram, and Matthew Wells all picking up wins.

In doubles play, the team of Clay Choate and Bertram, as well as the team of Hubbs and Tallent, McFall and Hunter all picked up wins.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Racket Dawgs found eight wins and zero losses against Monticello.

In singles play, Bianca Soma, Maegan Harlan, Kiley Hoppe all picked up wins and Laura Groce defeated two Monticello players.

In doubles competition, the team of Soma and Harlan won 7-5, Groce and Hoppe shutout Haley Edwards and Tasha Troxell, 6-0 and the team of Groce and Harlan won 6-1.

On Thursday, April 14, the Racket Dawgs traveled to Metcalfe County. The Lady Racket Dawgs couldn’t find the rhythm and finished the match with 13 losses and no wins.

The boys’ side, however, was quite the opposite as Jordan Vincent, Glen England, Haley Matthews and Kolby Smith all picked up wins in singles competition.

In doubles play, the team of England and Matthews won 8-0, as did the team of Kyle Choate and Clay Choate.

On Monday, April 18, Clinton County traveled to Barren County with the girls’ team picking up three wins and dropping nine matches.

In singles play, Danielle Brown lost, 8-5, Soma was defeated, 8-2, Holly Adams fell, 8-0, Amber Harper lost, 8-3, Groce was defeated 8-1 and Harlan rounded out singles play with an 8-1 loss.

In doubles competition, the team of Brown and Soma lost 8-4, the team of Adams and Harper fell, 8-1 and the Groce and Harlan team lost, 8-0.

On the boys’ side, it was Haley Matthews picking up the only singles win, 9-8, and the team of William Cox and Chris Cox picked up the only doubles win, 8-3.
